What is counselling?

The BACP describes counselling as “… a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.”
It is not about someone telling you what to do or provide opinions, but rather someone who can sit with you and assist you in working out your own answers. I view my role as being someone who can walk alongside you on your journey, rather than leading the way.

Sometimes people think you need to be at crisis point to reach out for help, but it’s usually much more effective to ask for help early on, when you are just starting to notice you are not feeling your usual self, or you realise there are things in your life that are bothering you.
If you would like to chat through whether or not you think counselling is right for you at this time, I offer a free initial telephone call. You can email me to arrange this at a time convenient for you.
